What Licence Do I Need for Bareboat Charter in Croatia?
If you want to rent a boat without a skipper, you must have a proper license to operate the yacht. In Croatia, you must have at least a B-category skipper’s licence and a VHF radio operator’s certificate. Here is a list of all skipper licenses/certificates issued by the competent authorities of all states that are recognized for operating Croatian flag boats and yachts. When you are booking your charter, tell us you intend to skipper yourself. Send us a copy of your skipper’s licence, so we can check its validity (whether you found it on this list or not). Please note that you should show us your permission on arrival at our office. There are two reasons for it. We need to verify the original document once more and make sure you actually have it in your possession because you cannot sail without it.
Types of Boats for Bareboat Charter
Sailboat monohulls are typical boats for a bareboat charter. But, you can rent motorboat or catamaran as well. A sailboat will ensure you the real sailing experience. Because of its speed, a motorboat will allow you to visit numerous islands, bays and beaches. And a catamaran will give you more comfort and more space.
Since the skipper is fully responsible for the boat, during check-in, you will inspect the boat’s seaworthiness while getting to know its specific characteristics. Once you are sure the boat is seaworthy, you will sign a checklist. Upon your return to harbour, you will go through it item by item, returning the yacht in the same condition as it was when you took it over.
You should be aware of the fact that in the case of bareboat charter, you are fully responsible for the safety of the crew and the ship. If you are not entirely sure of yourself or do not have enough experience, we recommend that you hire a skipper for at least a few days.
